What is School Centred Initial Teacher Training?
The SCITT route is a school-based approach to teacher training, allowing the highest quality graduates an opportunity to gain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) in a uniquely school supported way. From day one of training with us, you will be integrated into the teaching staff of your placement school and be given the opportunity to make a significant contribution to the school in which you are based.
This exciting way of training alongside outstanding practitioners in our schools will allow you to gain the knowledge, skills and professional attitudes that will allow you to embark on a personal journey towards being an excellent teacher and future leader. The majority of our trainees choose this school-based approach due to the wealth of experience it can offer, the extensive hands-on practice and the continuous support which runs alongside the training.
There are two separate training routes:
- SCITT Training Programme is for high quality graduates who want to be part of a school team from day one. You may be eligible for a bursary, which depending on your subject specialism, can be up to £28,000. You may also be eligible to apply for a prestigious scholarship, to support you while you train.
- SCITT Salaried Programme is an employment-based route for high quality experienced graduates. You will earn a salary while you train. This programme offers a combination of classroom teaching, practical learning and a salary. This route is designed mainly for applicants who have been nominated by the leadership team within the school, in which they currently work.
